Iloilo City (where our VMAs are based) made headlines after topping the 2019 nursing licensure exam once again. West Visayas State University secured a 100% passing rate and dominated the Top 10 with 12 graduates bagging the top spots. One WVSU passer ranked first alongside a nursing graduate from Central Luzon.
The university maintains its perfect rating, but this is the first time a school outside Metro Manila dominates the Top 10. In an interview with a local newspaper, the university president attributed their graduates’ consistent and successful performance to the rigid selection and retention processes. The school also has its own hospital, the West Visayas State University Medical Center, where students gain first-hand hospital experience.
WVSU ranks first in the list of nursing schools in the Philippines along with Xavier University (Mindanao) and Siliman University (also in Visayas). Other notable nursing schools in the city are St. Paul’s University and Central Philippine University. In March 2019, the university also produced a topnotcher and garnered a 100% passing rate in the physician licensure exam.
These accolades further establish the city’s standing in providing quality education outside the country’s capital.
